Competition in Indonesia’s hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) market has continued to intensify amid growing demand for electrified vehicles. Based on data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), wholesale distribution of hybrid cars reached 58,040 units from January to August 2026. The figure increased 43.25% year-on-year (YoY) compared with the same period in 2025, when hybrid distribution stood at 40,514 units.

Toyota recorded the highest hybrid vehicle distribution during the first eight months of 2026. The automaker distributed 37,698 units, accounting for approximately 65% of total national HEV wholesale distribution. Suzuki followed with 9,716 units, while Honda recorded 3,810 units.

Overall, Indonesia’s automotive market also recorded growth during the same period. Gaikindo reported total wholesale car distribution of 599,491 units from January to August 2026, up 20.1% from 499,315 units in the same period a year earlier. Retail sales reached 594,984 units, increasing 13.9% year-on-year from 522,160 units in January–August 2025.
