Based on data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), world nickel production is estimated to reach 3.7 million tons in 2024. That number is 1.33% lower than the 2023 figure of 3.75 million tons. Last year, Indonesia ranked as the world's largest nickel producer with an estimated total nickel production of 2.2 million tons. The figure is equivalent to 4.6% of total global production.
The number also increased by 170,000 tons from 2023 which amounted to 2.03 million tons. When viewed in the span of the last 10 years, Indonesia has consistently occupied the top position since 2018 after shifting the Philippines to second place.
